In August we had two events: A business meeting on 8/15, and we participated in the Cutsforth Cruise-In in Canby on 8/24.
Immediately below are a few photos of the 15 in attendance at the Business Meeting. President Martha Brunelle had a prepared agenda, asked for input from the floor and ran a tight meeting for about 90 minutes. I do believe minutes of that meeting will be in this issue of the Bird Watcher.
Further below is a write-up of the Cruise-In by Jim Tyson and photos that Jim Sweet provided. Thanks to Jim Tyson for planning our attendance at the Cruise-In.
Saturday's event began with much concern and doubt as to whether to even attend due to the many various weather reports predicting rain throughout the day. However, even though it was very cool in the morning when we met at the Clackamas county fairgrounds, it turned out to be a wonderful day for car show weather. During the time of the event, it remained sunny and in the mid-seventies.
Jim Sweet, Don Smith, Matt Truax (owner of the Bird Nest), and myself parked together near the Canby Park - center of the cruise-in. Also, Mike Hinsch displayed his '57 Skyliner close by. Other Birds not in our club were there and a beautiful black '57 won the Thunderbird Trophy this time. Estimates were for above 700 cars attending.
In addition to being a very wonderful car show, the Cruise In is a very well attended community event. Athletic teams from Canby High School were selling various treats to support their activities and the Rotary cooked and sold lunches for their charities. Many other food and craft booths were throughout the downtown area. By the end of the show streets were filled with families and kids enjoying the nice day and wonderful cars. Enjoy the photos below from Jim Sweet.

The header photo on this page was taken from a plaque on the ground under the front of a 1969 Mach 40. I know, I know - Ford never built a Mach 40. Well, these photos and the plaque explain how the car came about. Considering where the plaque was located this is about as good of an image that can be placed here. So please make the effort to enlarge your screen and read what it has to say. More photos of the car are shown below. Since your web experimenter wasn't at the show he can only surmise from the photo that the engine is in the rear of the vehicle.
The three photos below show the cars representing our club. Left to Right: Don Smith, Matt Truax (owner of Bird's Nest), Jim Sweet, and Jim Tyson.
A few more cars, including club member Mike Hinsch's 1957 Skyliner Retractable Hard Top. This was a shot out of the blue in 1957!
