Columbia River Gorge Drive Ruth Kelley July 24 was a perfect day to dust off our birds and take a scenic drive! Seven little birds, Three retro birds and one BMW chose to do just that.
It was wonderful to see new and long time members come meet and visit together. Roger and I were of the last to arrive at our meet-up spot and found new members chatting happily with long time members and old friends all together. This is T-birding at its best!
Traffic was steady and there were a couple of interesting round-a-bouts to negotiate through Camas & Washougal but from there on it was smooth driving HWY 14 on the Washington side of the gorge. This is always a wonderful scenic drive. We crossed the Bridge of the Gods to arrive in Cascade Locks about 11:45 and found ample parking at the Bridgeside Diner (formerly a Char Burger). Although it is cafeteria style to order food they bring it to you and service is very prompt. We had a room pretty much to ourselves to dine chat and enjoy the views of the river and the bridge. For an added bonus the Sternwheeler made a pass along the river and we also got to witness a marriage ceremony taking place on the patio below us.
All in all it was a great day and felt like a real T-Bird outing. Thanks to all who came and we look forward to seeing more members at our August event.
Below are six photos from new member Alicia Brazington. The balance are the Kelleys.
