The threat of rain kept some Birds in the garage but Little Birds and Retro Birds were represented.. While several club members were at the Regional Convention in Flagstaff there were 20 club members and 2 guests that toured Mathew’s Memory Lane on May 15th.
Dale Mathews has built a successful business buying and selling classic cars in southeast Portland. He will tell you what he paid for a car, what he has further invested in it and what the selling price will be. He also will buy the car back (at a discounted price) if you change your mind, get tired of it and/or want to trade up or down. There are currently 52 classic cars in his inventory. Members enjoyed wandering around and checking out the different vehicles. More than one member was seen drooling over one of his cars. He did not have any Birds in his inventory this time but he has bought and sold several in the past.
After looking at the cars members went next door to the Laurelhurst Café for lunch. They seated us together and we ordered from the menu. The décor is built around Betty Boop which is fun. After enjoying the lunch and fellowship members left independently to go home. Because we met and ate at the same location we did not have to move our cars and no caravan was scheduled. Thanks to Al Hillier and Tom & Betti Mathews for arranging this.
As Al mentioned above several of attended the CTCI Regional Convention in Flagstaff at the same time. I think we all had a good time there (maybe Shelley didn't, you'd have to ask her about her experience). I've never been in Flagstaff when it was cold - but oh my was it. A heavy rain on Thursday evening followed by below freezing temperatures overnight left the cars covered in ice. Judging was delayed about 30 minutes to allow the ice to melt. The convention officially ended on Saturday night the 18th; however, about 80 stayed another day for a bus trip to the Grand Canyon. They were greeted with snow before they got out of town on Monday.
Sorry, I have no pictures of the Concours field as I was in the Score Room all day. John
